Binder Machine Usage 101: Getting Started on Plastic Coil Binding Supplies

Call it what you wish - spiral coil, color coil, plastic coil, ez-coil, spiral binding or simply coil binding, but plastic coil binding is where it's at these days when it comes to saving money and making documents look more professional and stylish, as well as a good small business idea.  With the right plastic coil binding supplies and the right binder machine, it's very easy to get started, and having your own machine would allow you to do the binding - and maybe business - from the luxury of your own home.

Plastic coil supplies come in 5:1 pitch, which means four holes to one inch, 4:1 (four holes to the inch) and 3:1 (three holes to the inch).  The most popular would be the 4:1 pitch, as it is neither too small or too large - just right in the middle, and likewise, most book binding companies go by this as the standard.  The number of holes that can be punched into the plastic coil binding supplies would differ as well, but for 4:1 pitch, you can punch either 43 or 44 holes depending on the type of machine used.

Several machines are available for plastic coil binding, and the two most popular brands of binder machine are GBC and Fellowes.  The GBC CoilBind C100 is the basic model that is best utilized for small volume usage.  Likewise this is a smaller type of machine that could easily fit on a desktop, without sacrificing much-needed space for other office appliances.  The GBC CoilBind C200 is an updated and newer model, with a greater punch capacity of 20 sheets, as compared to the 18 sheets of the C100.  For less-ambitious binding projects, the Fellowes Star and Starlet are perfect, and offer a wealth of feature to make your plastic coil binding more seamless.

Regardless of the binding machine you choose or the plastic coil binding supplies you purchase, now may be the right time for you to get started.  All it takes is a small investment, and who knows?  Plastic coil binding might be the right business for you, or if you prefer to do it for more personal purposes, a good way to spice up your important documents.
