Effective Communication and its Importance in the Workplace

Effective communication is a characteristic of almost every efficient and successful leader. Although almost all individuals have the ability to communicate in some way, the process of communication is not always successful when the message is not understood properly on the other end. When an unclear message is sent to someone, the wrong responses often follow, which subsequently leads to various problems within the team.
Coding is the procedure by which individuals phrase their messages to others. Therefore, an essential aspect of sending messages to others is discovering how to select the appropriate phrases that will convey the intended meaning in a clear and accurate way. However, many times this process is not as simple as creating cohesive sentences. One vital part of coding is discovering the economic, educational and cultural, boundaries that must be considered in order for the message to be clearly understood by the intended recipient. What makes a good leader, in part, is the ability to format messages that are tailored to individuals as well as groups. Communication that is targeted at a diverse group of individuals requires coding that is
simplistic in nature, in order to ensure all its recipients will understand.
In positions of leadership, communicating plays a vital role in ensuring that important tasks are performed. Those in management or other positions within a corporation who fail to communicate appropriately sometimes find it has caused a total breakdown of essential operations. Even if the latter does not occur, lack of communication results in missed opportunities, and wasted money and energy. Aside from learning how to appropriately create and relay information, leaders must also develop an understanding of the numerous mindsets and personalities of those that they interact with on a daily basis. For communication to be entirely effective, it must do more than simply provide information to the recipient in a clear and concise manner. Communication must also be accomplished in such a way as to encourage employees to take action and remind them that they are valuable team members.
