How to Create a Professional Atmosphere at the Office
Decorating your business office to look professional and inviting can be a challenging line to toe. For instance, it's always a little intimidating to walk into a law firm with a wall full of academic and career accomplishments. While it's tempting to show clients or future employees just how capable you are, some simple decoration might get you a little further. The following are some great tips on how to start adding office decor to your business.
Keep it Simple
My first piece of advice is to keep decoration simple. Artwork, for instance, is way more approachable when it isn't too complex, so it's best to leave overly abstract artwork to the galleries. As a criminal lawyer in Houston, it's important that the artwork in my office puts off a relaxed and professional vibe. My go-to genre for artwork is nature photography, because it has a soothing quality to it, it is easy for everybody to relate to and it isn't too expensive. Similar genres like landscape paintings and rural photography offer a similar effect.
Make it Relevant
It's also a good idea to have some decoration that relates to the service that your office gives. In the law office we have a copy of the Constitution hanging on the wall, along with a still frame painting of a gavel. For whatever reason, people really react to our office decoration that relates to the legal system--people are always stopping to read the first few lines of the Constitution.
Show Some Credentials
Now, it is perfectly appropriate to include some of your credentials to your wall space. As long as you don't hit people over the head with it, they usually appreciate some sign of your professionalism in your field. This is especially true for people in fields that require a lot of schooling, like doctors, chiropractors and Houston criminal attorneys like me.
