Wearing Flip Flop Sandals
Since flip flop sandals were introduced as the hottest fashion statement, the world suddenly became a flip flop wearing generation. Comfortable, stylish and affordable, they’re so easy to fall in love with and before you know it, they are the rage among both men and women of all ages and lifestyle. Originally confined for home use or at least at the beach and pool with its soft and comfortable rubber soles, flip flop sandals today come in a variety of elegant materials and designs versatile enough for casual parties and even formal occasions. A must-have in every woman and even man’s wardrobe, they are so affordable and simply tempting that it’s no surprise if everyone has at least several pairs in his or shoe closet.
But while flip flop wearing seem to be the new craze among fashion conscious people, there are also seemingly harmful effects of wearing flip flops all the time. Studies show that constant use of this kind of footwear causes “pronation,” the “rolling in of your feet which causes fatigue and biochemical stress in your feet and lower legs.” This can lead to “overuse” injuries called “plantar fasciitis” and “posterior tibial tendonitis” or more commonly known as arch fatigue or fallen arches. Moreover, flip flop sandals also increase stress on the big toe joint and cause bunion. Because of these seeming dangers of flip flop wearing, some shoe manufacturers came up with new and in fact therapeutic alternatives to the common flip flops.
The “Fit Flop” is a UK brand claiming to offer a better alternative to the ordinary flip flops. Designed as a “barefoot technology” shoe, it is made of scientifically engineered materials and design that supposedly increases and strengthens muscle activation. Compared to common flip flops, the “Fit Flop” actually tones your legs, calves, thighs and even butt while walking in it because of its special construction. Both stylish and therapeutic, it seems like an even better alternative to exercising. But while some shoes claim these medical benefits, no shoe or diet craze for that matter can ever replace the benefits of good old exercising. The “Fit Flop” sandals may give you more toned calf muscles or slimmer thighs, but walking in it albeit regularly can never achieve real fitness. In fact, this type of sandals is not for everyone. Flat-footed people are not advisable to wear “Fit Flops” because its technology is designed for the normal foot. Any irregularity or abnormality in the foot shape or type may actually cause or increase stress by wearing this particular footwear.
While “Fit Flop” is a good alternative to the common flip flop sandals, flip flop wearing as a whole should be practiced with moderation. Too much dependence on this kind of sandals may lead you to become too relaxed and casual in everything that you do that when an occasion or function does require wearing appropriate and formal shoes, you are no longer comfortable with any other kind of footwear and in fact you easily get foot sores or blisters from wearing closed shoes. Like any other shoes, appropriateness, function and comfort should be the top priority without having to sacrifice style and fashion.
