McDonalds Fast Food Restaurant
McDonald’s first started back in the year 1940 in San Bernardino California. Instead of serving fries they served potato chips instead. In the year 1948, McDonald’s hamburgers sold for just 15 cents a piece. In 1949, McDonalds replaced their potato chips with French fries. By the year 1958, McDonalds had sold their 100 millionth hamburger and by 1959 McDonald’s had opened up their 100th restaurant. McDonalds’s didn’t have inside seating until 1962 when a location in Denver, Colorado first decided to offer indoor seating. In 1966, Ronald McDonald appeared in his first television commercial.
McDonald’s made a big move and went international in 1967 when they opened up fast food restaurants in Puerto Rico and Canada. In 1968 their famous “Big Mac” was introduced and is still a hit today. In 1971, new characters joined Ronald McDonald. They were Grimace, Hamburglar, Mayor McCheese, Captain Crook, and Big Mac. In the year 1973, a new menu item was added, the Quarter Pounder and the Quarter Pounder with Cheese. In 1975, McDonalds makes another good move by adding a breakfast item to the menu! This breakfast item was the Egg McMuffin. In 1978, McDonalds opened their 5000th restaurant which happened to be located in Kanagawa Japan. The famous Happy Meal started in the year 1979. This was a hit to children because Happy Meals were fun and came with games and toys.
In 1987 is when McDonald’s started offering salads. This was great for the health conscious Americans looking for something a little healthier than a hamburger. McDonald’s website www.mcdonalds.com was started in the year 1996. This brings us to today, the year 2010, where McDonald’s now offers few Wi-Fi internet service and thousands upon thousands of its restaurant. This is very important for modern day McDonald’s because a lot of people need the internet on lunch breaks for work and school purposes. McDonald’s has really come a long way in 70 years!
