Should You Choose Edible or Non-Edible Cupcake Toppers?

If you’re torn between choosing edible and non-edible cupcake toppers, here are several pros and cons you should consider.

Age

How old are your intended recipients? If you are holding, say, a kiddie party then it might be more prudent to use cupcake toppers that you can eat such as edible flowers. Toddlers especially are prone to put anything they hold into their mouths and to be on the safe side, it would be best not to place anything inedible on their plates.

Time

Certainly, edible cupcake toppers are a lot more time-consuming to perform. Unlike inedible toppers, which you can purchase readily from department stores or even order them online, edible toppers are something that you’ll have to do on your own. And they’re certainly not easy to do at all. You could spend the entire weekend working on the toppers alone, depending on their size and the intricacy of design you require for them.

If you are holding an impromptu bash and you have little time to spare, it might be better to use inedible toppers in this instance.

Skill

Generally speaking, inedible toppers are easier to do and therefore require less skill. But ultimately, it depends really on your goal or design. Edible toppers can be something that even your kids could do if you stick with simple designs like heart shaped candies or plain sugar flowers.

Cost

In most cases, edible cupcake toppers are more expensive than inedible toppers for several reasons. Firstly, edible toppers are usually handmade, which means you have to pay more. Inedible toppers, on the other hand, can be mass produced and therefore come with lower operational costs.

Of course, you’re having your cupcake toppers custom designed then it wouldn’t matter if you want them edible or not. Either way, they’re sure to be expensive since your cupcake toppers are made to order and would require time and skill to produce.
