Acid Reflux: Causes and Effective Cures

Acid reflux or heartburn as referred to by many is a type of digestive disorder that is suffered by hundreds of people worldwide. Acid reflux occurs when the foods that you ate along with the stomach’s juices backs up into your esophagus and throat. In the medical community, this condition is called GERD which stands for Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease. An individual will suffer heartburn because of the regurgitation of the stomach acids. The reason for this occurrence is normally due to the degeneration or the weakening of the sphincter muscle and the esophageal valve.

Heartburn or that burning sensation along the chest area is one of its most common symptoms. Some of the other symptoms may include but are not limited to bitter/sour taste in the mouth, wheezing, bad breath, swallowing problems, chest pain, sleep disturbances and dry coughing.

Causes of Acid Reflux

- Too much intake of spicy and oily foods

- Overeating

- Not chewing your foods well

- High stress levels

- Poor digestion due to obesity etc.

- Improper posture

- Too much intake of aerated drinks

- Hormonal imbalances, especially during pregnancy

- Weakening of the LES (Lower Esophageal Sphincter) due to several ailments

Effective Cures for Acid Reflux

- Drinking apple cider vinegar mixed with water after or during meals is a great acid reflux cure

- Following acid reflux diets that consists of plenty of organic fruits, greens and certain herbs is also very effective. Some of the fruits and veggies that are helpful in keeping your tummy healthy are papayas, bananas, figs, apples, carrots and cabbages. As for the herbs, you will need Aloe Vera, chamomile and ginger root to name a few

- Drinking eight to nine glasses of water is also great for neutralizing your stomach acids

- Chewing on a gum is also found helpful in keeping your reflux at bay. It is a fast and easy remedy for this stomach disease
