Controlling Glucose Levels in Blood

Everybody should know the proper amount of levels in the blood as this information becomes useful in determining whether a person has diabetes or not. However, it is important to note that this information should also be confirmed by a doctor as he or she will be the only competent to declare whether a person has diabetes.
The glucose level in blood is generally low in the morning as this time of day is called the fasting glucose level. Those with normal blood sugar average 70 to 99 mg/dl while those with pre-diabetes are diagnosed with 100 to 125 mg/dl glucose levels in blood. On the other hand, a person afflicted with diabetes will have about 126 or more mg/dl. When this happens, testing should be done twice on two separate occasions.
Most of the time, diabetes is diagnosed with the use of an oral glucose test. This is done by drinking a solution that has 75 grams of glucose. The blood is then checked two hours after drinking the solution. If the outcome measures 139 and less, this is under the normal stage. A pre-diabetic person has 140-199 mg/dl while a person with diabetes has more than 200 mg/dl.
People diagnosed with pre-diabetes can help keep their glucose levels in blood low with proper exercise and a healthy diet. For those who are on medication, a low sugar level can be as dangerous as having a high sugar level. The reason for this is because the effect of low sugar causes hypoglycemia, light headedness, anxiety, weakness, shakiness, difficulty in speaking, among others.
The most basic and effective ways in controlling glucose levels in blood is through regular exercise, diet and medication. Exercise helps keep blood sugar in check but it still has to be monitored throughout the exercise process to prevent a drastic drop in glucose levels. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, are high in sugar, thus they should be eaten in moderation. Medication is one of the traditional methods in regulating sugar levels in blood but to attain its maximum effects, it should be worked together with a proper diet and regular exercise.
