Two Ways to Deal With Thinning Hair

Thinning hair is one of those parts of getting older that seem to come on suddenly and strong. Like graying hair and wrinkling skin, it slowly makes us feel and look older. This is especially unpleasant for people who had thinner hair to begin with and can’t afford to lose so much hair. You can treat thinning hair internally, externally, or both. Here are a few great ideas for dealing with thinning hair.

If you want to get to the root of the problem, you might want to start taking vitamins that promote hair growth. This is not a quick fix but it’s something that you can do while using other treatments to help boost your hair growth over time. Vitamins should be part of an aging person’s health routine anyway and the B vitamins have the added benefit of increasing circulation at the scalp and stimulating hair growth.

An external way to deal with thinning hair is to change your hairstyle. People with thin hair need volume more than anything. You need to wash your hair frequently because oily hair will just look flat and greasy and even thinner. Yet you don’t want to use too many heat styling tools so be gentle to your hair. Go to a salon and ask for a cut that makes your hair look fuller. For many people this will involve a few layers and a bit of teasing with a comb. Try to avoid pulling your hair back because this leads to breakage and can even pull your hair out, which will only make your hair look more sparse. You might also want to consider hair extensions to make your hair appear fuller and longer. These are pieces of hair that are attached to your existing hair then blended to look as natural as possible.

You can use both remedies in conjunction with one another. Look at the label of your regular multivitamin to see if it contains ingredients such as Vitamin B7 or Vitamin E. If not, look for vitamins for hair loss at your local drugstore. Be sure to run any vitamins you plan on taking past your doctor first so he or she can advise you on any possible problems based on your medical history. While you are waiting for your vitamins to work their magic, get a new style and experiment with different ways of wearing your hair to make it look fuller. Most importantly, be gentle with your hair so you can retain all the hairs you still have left.
