Dinnerware for Casual Family Gatherings

Sunday is a special day for my family. Every Sunday, we come together in my parents' house for a simple get together over lunch and coffee. It is the only time of the week that we are ever complete so we always make sure that we prepare a special lunch to be shared by everyone. The women in my family all help out together in the kitchen as my mother takes out age old family recipes to be cooked and served, and the younger ones get to help in the table setting. This has been an old tradition in my household, and being together and bonding over food is one great way of having quality time with the family.

Aside from the food, what makes our family gathering special is the table setting. I think that in every household, you can tell if there is an occasion being celebrated based on the table setting. On regular days, ordinary, everyday plates are used. The table is set simply. But during special occasions, there is a special labor of love in setting up the table. You can tell from the place mats and the center pieces, the special dinnerware and crystal. And in our household, every Sunday my mom takes out her favorite Corelle dinnerware sets to be laid out in the table for everyone's use.

Ever since I can remember, we have had Sunday lunch using this dinnerware set. My mom, who is very picky when it comes to choosing dinnerware, is very partial to Corelle patterns. They are simple yet elegant designs which make them perfect for our Sunday casual family lunch. Not only that they are also very durable. I think we have had these dinnerware sets for a long time, yet the patterns are still apparent and very clear, just like the day we bought them. These dinnerware sets have been present since our first Sunday family lunch. They have become a part of a family tradition that I will cherish until I grow older.
