Beginner Guitar Lessons Online – A Good Idea?
Many people are taking up the guitar every day, and a lot of those people will teach themselves to play, rather than taking lessons in person with a teacher. Traditionally, people going the self-taught route have used a guitar tutor book. While such books can be helpful, they do have their limitations, not least of which is that they contain only photos and diagrams which can make it hard to show you exactly what you need to be doing with your body and hands as you play.
Fortunately however, video guitar lessons have become much more widely available in recent years, and these are generally a better choice, since you can see how you should be playing, almost as if the teacher was there in person. While video tuition is available on DVD, thanks to the internet, you can get high quality beginner guitar lessons online that feature video instruction, as well as written text, tabs and/or notation, audio examples and jam tracks and often software learning aids too. These multi-media lessons are a great way to learn, and if you decide to go this route you’re sure to find it enjoyable.
One thing to be aware of is that since anyone can set themselves up as an expert on the internet, not all online beginner guitar lessons are of great quality. Some are badly taught (not all good guitarists are competent teachers), and some have bad production, making them difficult to follow. So when choosing lessons, look for those that are professionally produced to a high standard, and taught by skilled guitarists who actually know how to teach as well. After all, your development as a guitarist is too important to take instruction from just anyone!
It is best to look for reviews of the lessons you’re interested in before making your choice, and see what others have to say about them. While most plans will have the occasional disgruntled customer (and a few negative reviews aren’t necessarily a bad thing), if most of the reviews are negative this is obviously a good warning sign. Just take your time when making your choice, and you’ll be more likely to have a good experience.
