Troubleshooting The Vexilar FL-8
The Vexilar FL-8 is among the most well designed fish depth finders today. This fishing tool is basically installed on boats either inside its hull or on its exterior. Now, there may be instances wherein this fish depth finder malfunctions. There are basically two major reasons for this namely problems with the Vexilar battery or issues on the transducer of the model. Inspecting each of these parts will allow you to determine the exact problem so that you can come up with the best solution for the problem.
A fish depth finder is an essential part of any ice fishing equipment set, which is why having it up and running all the time is very important if one wishes to catch a lot of fish at the end of the day. If your depth finder does not function well when you switch it on or if it only functions for a short period of time before it turns off, then the problem may be with your battery. You can easily deal with this by checking that the 3-pin connector on it is well seated at the rear of the unit. Make sure to follow the cord from the unit to the power source.
In addition to this, you also need to check for any frayed, severed, or crushed areas on the wire. Moreover, check whether or not the red wire is connected to the positive terminal and ensure that the black wire is attached to the ground or negative terminal. Lastly, check if your battery is fully charged and if it has enough voltage to power up your range finder.
If your depth finder on the other hand, fails to show any depth or targets accurately, then the problem may be with your unit's transducer. To deal with this, make sure that your transducer is installed just under your boat but it should be deep enough so that the water will cover its face even if you are moving at high speeds.
