All About Golf Cart Windshields
There are various types of windshields in the market today. Windshields give the passengers and the driver protection from debris and dust when you are on the road and it is also a protection from the weather. A windshield is one of the requirements if you want to be able to drive your golf cart on the streets. Most golf carts for sale have windshields which are not fit for the street. You might need to change them.
Windshields are made from various materials but the most common are polycarbonate, acrylic or a combination of the two. Acrylic is the cheaper version of glass. It can easily break or crack when thrown a hard material. If you are interested in purchasing an acrylic windshield it is best to look for one which has protection against the UV rays of the sun. Windshields which have no UV protection can easily get weakened by exposure to the sun.
On the other hand, polycarbonate is more durable than acrylic. It is the better option of the two. You might also want to consider purchasing a windshield which can be easily attached and detached. This will make cleaning easier.
Golf cart are usually 3/16” or ¼’ thick. You want a windshield which is thick. Thick windshields are resistant to damages. The thickness of the windshield will also depend on the purpose of your golf cart.
Types of Windshields
- One place windshields. These are very similar to split hinges. They can be folded down in order to allow more wind to go through.
- Fold down/Split/Hinged windshields. These are more permanent compared to roll up windshields.
- Winged windshields. These are suitable for use especially during windy and rainy weather. They can be extended to protect the driver, as well as the passengers.
- Roll-Up windshields. These are made from clear vinyl and they are portable.
- Sport windshields. These are short and can be either made from tinted or clear material.
